ABOUT

ROSALIEN TOORNSTRA

I’m Rosalien Toornstra, an abstract artist living and working in a small town near Amsterdam.
Creating is a natural drive for me. I work with my hands until I make something I truly find beautiful.

There’s no big story behind my work. It comes from feeling.
I’m drawn to organic shapes and textures, nature’s quiet perfection fascinates me, precisely because we as humans can’t replicate it.

I mainly work with sand. Its texture, its rawness, its honesty, it feels like a direct connection to the earth.
I aim to create pieces that evoke the feeling of a lazy day at the beach, a quiet walk in the woods, or the sharpness of a seashell in your hand.
For me, it’s about the calm and joy that come from both the process and the finished result.

My work embraces structures and forms inspired by and found in nature. When you see one of my pieces, you can often feel its softness and calm energy.
I would describe my style as warm, a feeling in touch with nature, shaped through a variety of materials and textures. On the one hand, the work brings energy, on the other, it surrounds you with stillness.

It still amazes me how everything comes together in the end.

I want people to feel the softness and beauty of nature through my work, whether with their eyes, or by physically touching the surface.
The materials invite that interaction. That’s why I describe my work as abstract, warm, and natural, a piece of abstract art to bring nature into your home.
